2016, a year of much overeating and enjoying food way too much. So, as I am once again trying to eat better. I am going to show all my pictures of things I or a friend ate this year.
Going forward I know sometimes I will fail and sometimes I will succeed. But either way I will just keep trying.
Until next year,
eat well.

Cereal, how do I love thee?
So, I know I said before in past posts that I had given up cereal. But I
love cereal.
I love cereal, yes I do. I love cereal, how about you? That's a little something funny I like say. Anywho, I started eating cereal again even though it was against my best judgement. And I decided that I should tell you my favorite cereals. Just because I'm fun that way.
Well, the top of the list is Cookie Crisp of course.Cookies and mild in a bowl. How can that be bad? And in no particular order after that is Chocolate Cheerios, Apple Jacks, Honeycomb, and Cocoa Pebbles. Honorable mention going to anything in the Chex family.
And of course too many others to mention every one.
They were each and everyone loaded down with sugar and lots of other things that I should definitely not be eating.
Oh, and I use unsweetened almond milk on top. Which has less sugar and calories, but has more sodium. And since recently I have developed a sensitivity to Salt it turns out that that's not doing me any favors at all.
There are also some cereals that I will not eat. Sugar bears. They got too soggy in the milk. Grape nuts. What is that really? Kind of tastes like rocks in my opinion. Any kind of grits, or Malt-O-Meal, and oatmeal is kind of maybe yes maybe no. It all has to do with texture, consistency, and how long it's going to take me to make it. Mornings are not the time to cook an in depth meal.
But sadly, I'm going to have to give it up again. Because the waistline just seems to keep expanding. And I know that these things are not helping me no matter how much I enjoy them.
So as soon as my last gallon of milk is gone. I will be giving up my cereal again. At least for now. It was certainly fun while it lasted. I think it reminded me of how much fun it was opening a box of cereal when I was a kid. Me with my big Jethro bowl of cereal and enjoying my chocolate flavored milk after the cereal was gone.
It is no wonder that I am such an unhealthy person. Because I love food. No surprise revelations there, eh?
But if you enjoy cereal and you have any kind of self-control, I do recommend enjoying your cereal in the morning or whatever time of day you like to eat it because it does taste good. Just not the whole box at once.
Until next time,
eat well.
Goodbye to you my trusted friend We've known each other since we were nine or ten..

Halloween
I know Halloween is over. But it's never too late to talk about candy.
I'll say right off the bat that the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup is my favorite. Followed closely by the Hershey's chocolate. That's milk chocolate not dark chocolate or white chocolate, because gross.
I can tell you another thing I don't like. And that would be circus peanuts. Nasty orange marshmallow wanna-bees. Followed by peeps. Or anything with goo in the middle. Such as chocolate covered cherries.
Now I love chocolate, and I love cherries. However when they put them together and put that mystery goo in the center, it just makes no sense at all to me.
I'm going to steal this. I heard someone say recently, (Jimmy Fallon I think), it's funny that you teach your kids never to take candy from strangers. But on Halloween that little rule goes out the door. You go knock on the door and ask a total stranger for candy one day out of the year.
I think maybe Halloween has always been my favorite holiday because it was the no muss, no fuss holiday. There's no reason to argue, there's no reason to fight. Not really a big meal for the day. Just dressing up and having fun. And that's fun any day of the year.
I was always one to make my own costume and I hand out the good stuff. No crappy candy at this house, no sir. Candy bars and yes, I give out toys as well. Just in case the candy can't be enjoyed due to food allergies or diabetes or whatever.
Holidays should be enjoyed and celebrated. Especially ones involving free candy.
Until next time,
eat well.

New Pancake
I tried a new pancake. Being a multigrain I knew it would be gritty but it was still good.
The pumpkin spice pancake at first watch. I actually thought it could have been prettier,
but was very tasty.

First Watch, New Choices
Not my thing but my friend liked this Parma Hash at First Watch
I had the Belgian Waffle, Poached Eggs, and Turkey Sausage today
But, I was adventurous. At least for me. And one day I ordered the Biscuit and Turkey Sausage Gravy
It was good but I did look up the nutritional info. on it and the biscuit alone was 350 calories!
This dialogue went through my head. "Is this a magic biscuit?? Did this come from the same place that Jack got his magic beans?"
But then I think I'm funny. It was good but I think too many calories for my liking.
The Egg And I Is Now FIRST WATCH.
And it's just as good just a little different.
One woman's opinion.
Until next time.

Buffets. Good but bad for you.
So, maybe I should write more often. But it seems silly to write when I have nothing interesting or amusing to say. So I waited until I did have something to say. Plus I was
extremely busy for about 2 and a half weeks. Then exhausted from that little project. But here I am again. So there.
I had a date last night. I went to an Asian buffet for dinner. And then to a movie.
For starters the buffet was really good. I can honestly say my only complaint would have been with the choice at the dessert bar. Which was not really a big deal because I was so full already there was not much room for dessert.
They had everything from rice noodles, fried rice, salad bar, sushi, Mongolian Grill, stuffed mushrooms, crab legs.It was what a buffet should be.
And my date, a good friend, told the waiter. We were there for the crab legs. Yes, we ate. A lot. I was almost surprised they didn't ask us to stop or to leave. He and I sat there for 2 hours eating a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, but mostly it was the crab legs. It was well worth it.
I must say the funny part of the evening besides eating that many crab legs was at the sushi bar. A woman wanted to clarify whether she was eating raw fish or vegetables. So she yelled at the sushi chef. As if yelling and articulating each word would make a foreign person understand what you were saying. I found it rather amusing. I hope that she got whatever she was looking for. But if you don't know sushi, don't eat sushi.
My friend decided to get some chocolate covered marshmallows and some chocolate-covered Rice Krispie treats. I ate something I had always called an ambrosia salad for dessert. If I wanted to classify it as dessert. It has Mandarin oranges and pineapple chunks and marshmallows and some creamy goodness all mixed together.
But when I saw that chocolate covered marshmallow on my friends plate, I just reached over, grabbed it, and stuck it in my mouth. It was well worth it just by the look on his face. But it was chocolate. I couldn't seem to stop myself. And then I was laughing so hard. I couldn't even swallow it.
But I think it's fun to have fun on a date. It doesn't have to always be serious. He and I are good friends so it made for a really good dinner.
And then we went on to the movie we went and saw The Jungle Book. For a movie that once was a cartoon and now a live action movie. It was really really good.
Maybe it was because of who they chose to voice the animals. Or maybe it was the computer graphics. I couldn't really say. Probably a little bit of everything.
But I would definitely a hundred percent recommend this movie. It's for adults and kids alike. Not that there was any adult humor in it. But if you remember seeing the movie as a kid. You will really really enjoy it as an adult.
And of course my friend got popcorn. And because of the person I am. I dipped into his bucket many many times. But that's what going to see a movie is all about. The movie, the popcorn, and the candies. Which in my case was Junior Mints. Also good company and both people enjoying the experience. Although I did decide later I might have liked the Milk Duds instead.
But all in all it was a really great day.
So, I recommend buffet with crab legs. A good movie with popcorn. And a good friend by your side. Until next time.

Something fishy here..
Do you do this? When you go out to eat, you look at what the waitress is
bringing to other people's tables to see what you might like besides
what you ordered. I do that a lot.
That being said, recently I went to a restaurant then kind of has a Cajun flair to it. In fact, one of the things they are most popular for is crawfish. Or as they're also known, mud bugs.
I am not going to go into why they are referred to as mud bugs. But I will say on this particular evening my friend and I went specifically because they were having a mud bug eating contest. And although I try not to be too judgy about what other people are eating. And even though my friend does like to eat these crawfish. I think they're absolutely disgusting.
I can remember as a child going down to the creek and looking for these little animals. It would never have occurred to me then to eat one, so why would I eat one now?
I'm going to take a moment to tell you specifically what I like in Seafood type dishes. I do not, I repeat do not eat fish. Why? Because it's fishy. True story.
But I will eat crab legs. I will eat shrimp. I will eat lobster. I also like scallops. Mostly shell fish. But not the fishes with the big eyeballs and big hanging open mouths. Blah!
I went to a restaurant recently and they had steak and lobster on special. Because, let's face it. That is a splurge. Of calories and of the pocket book.
And I do like the texture of lobster because it's a lot like shrimp but much bigger. And my friend asked me how I can eat lobster and not eat crayfish. I just stared at him. The texture is nothing alike. The smell is nothing alike. The presentation is nothing alike. So there.
It's not seasoned up all Cajun style. And it's my business. So there again.
I might add that I absolutely love to eat crab legs. Yes, you have to crack them all open to get to the meat inside. But it's worth it. That sweet meat dipped in butter. It makes my mouth just want to explode with joy thinking about it.
And shrimp. I prefer coconut shrimp. But will do the peel and eat variety. or even just some little fried up shrimpies. Yummy goodness.
I guess I've said it many times before. Everybody is not going to like the same thing. And even though I'm not afraid to try new things. I will leave my friend to the mud bugs or the Crawfish or whatever you want to call it. And I will stick with the things that I enjoy. At least as far as the food goes.
Other things, you just never know.
If I try something new. I will be sure to write about it and tell you every detail right here. I just wanted to clarify though. That fish is indeed fishy.
Until next time.
Eat well.
Blah! Yum!
