My Excuse is...

Okay, I know it's been a long time since I've blogged. But in my defense I was planning on writing earlier this week, 4 days ago in fact. And then I got a really bad, nasty cold. Which is actually what I want  to talk about today. Or at least made me realize even more so what I want to talk about today. Forgive me if I ramble.
I went and had breakfast this morning. Since I felt much better, I needed to get out and eat real food. The last few days I have eaten very little because of being sick and sleeping my days away. Best thing for a cold by the way. At least in my opinion.
Now I am always proud of my "sensitive palate".  (Cue eye roll here). And so when I got my coffee this morning for breakfast and I couldn't smell it I was a bit confused. It really wasn't as tasty as usual. I know that we tend to take in food with our eyes first. Smell, is generally a close second. This directly correlates with taste. Or at least how we think something should taste. And my sense of smell being off messed up the taste of the coffee.
People have been tested when their favorite foods or drinks have had the colors altered or changed. And the result has been that they tend to taste what they see instead of what's actually there. Such as a white wine appearing to be red. You get my meaning I hope.
And so it's not like I didn't enjoy my coffee, my waffle, and my eggs. But to be honest I didn't enjoy it as much as I usually do. Because of my nose being stopped up with the remnants of a cold. It seemed to throw everything off.
I guess my whole point here is, even though I love food and I love to eat. It is considerably less enjoyable when you cannot see, smell, touch and savor your food. Nothing new to science there. Just surprised me at how much of a difference it made to me personally.
Now what I really wanted to write about today was Easter. Which I will write about in my next blog. Because it was rather amusing, and very interesting. at least from my perspective.
But for now I have to figure out a way to enjoy what I'm eating even though I can't quite smell it yet. Maybe, this is a way to eat a little bit less. Hey, one can hope. Although I'm not sure that would work for me. Because I do love to eat as I said many other times.
And so for now and until next time.
Eat well.

Sweet!

So, believe it or not I have a sweet tooth. I know, that is a shocking confession coming from me. But, there are some things I simply do not like and will not eat. Ever. That is where the real shock is.
Here is the short list of things I find disgusting even though they are sweet. Peeps. Cream Eggs from Cadbury,  chocolate-covered cherries, and circus peanuts. I will also give an honorable mention to peppermints. Which I will suck on sometimes if I want to freshen my breath, but otherwise will leave alone. For one reason or another all of these things are just gross in my eyes.
The snotty inside of the creme eggs and chocolate covered cherries or the texture of the peeps or circus peanuts. Just yuck.
I do have a much better list to speak of.  At the top of the list is cookies. I love Oreos, and I love chocolate chip cookies. An interesting note here is both of these cookies come in the sugar free or no sugar added variety. And when I have cookies I have to dip them in the milk. I prefer to use almond milk. It is unsweetened and it tastes good compared to real milk which I find actually to be disgusting. I get the kind that has a vanilla taste and comes in a box. Just a fun fact to know about me.
The problem with the sugar free Oreos is that even when you soak them in milk they just will not soften up. So if I'm going to do sugar free cookies I usually get the chocolate chip cookies. I will put them all in a bowl with the milk and eat them like cereal. Mostly because if you dip them you will ultimately spill the milk and get your fingers wet. And I ask you, who needs that kind of pressure? The next on the list is Hershey's milk chocolate. Not white chocolate, not dark chocolate, because both of those are disgusting. Just milk chocolate. I can eat it in the form of a chocolate bar or a chocolate kiss. Or even a chocolate Easter Bunny or something of that nature.
It's all good if it's chocolate. Generally with nothing hiding in the center but I will accept it if it was caramel. That's some good stuff too.
And after that I would eat a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. they make those in the standard size. They also come in larger, and smaller sizes. and yes they also make them in the sugar-free variety. Which I will sometimes get.  Although they do tend to taste a little bit chalky. It is less sugar, and a little bit less calories. And if you ever have indulged in sweets and you love them it's worth it if sugar is a concern for you. Because it is for me.
And I also love ice cream. Yes, that also comes in the sugar free or no sugar added variety. I do enjoy the real thing. But I get that sugar free not quite as good as the real thing kind most of the time because I am trying to be good at that particular time.
My favorite flavors are rocky road and cookies and cream. Although those aren't the only flavors I will eat. I am more flexible on that than most things.
Couldn't tell you why exactly. If I were to guess I would say because it's all cold and has similar texture but that's just off the top of my head.
I also love cupcakes.  If I had to pick one I would always say chocolate. I will go for a lot less varieties in this category than with the ice cream.
And last but not least I'm going to give an honorable mention to butterscotch. It's just a simple little candy but when you need a little taste of sweet to fulfill the needs of your sweet tooth.
Why do we love our sweets? I can only say that maybe it's a lot like comfort food. They release all of those happy chemicals in our brains. The pure pleasure and maybe even a bit of naughtiness in that sweet indulgence. But I'm just guessing.
I know there wasn't anything all that interesting or mind blowing  about my list. It's just shows you how much I enjoy sweets more than most other types of food.
And I hope I try something new soon that I will be able to write all about. But until that time comes.
Eat well.

These are a few of my favorite things. Copied from somewhere.
