So, it turns out that I am the Easter Bunny. It was Easter morning, very early. I had plastic Easter eggs that I had put either small toys, or some change, or folded up dollar bill in it. And I went and planted them all around my apartment complex. I know that is not a whole lot. But I know too that it would be fun for someone to find.
Now this is the not-so-fun part. The reason that I put those items in the Easter eggs instead of candy or chocolates was because I am diabetic. And it really bothers me the obesity rate in children today. That maybe instead of the candy that we received in our Easter baskets and Valentines and Christmas stockings. If we had gotten something else. Maybe it would have made a difference. I don't know. But there are children who have restrictions. And toys and a little bit of Pocket Change are a fun thing that will last longer than a piece of candy.
Now I will get off of my soapbox and tell you about mine Easter dinner. It really was very simple. I got a very big ham. Which I cut up and laid out in a baking dish. With some brown sugar on top. And baked it until it was just warm. Yes, I know the brown sugar was not a healthy choice but damn it was yummy. Then I got some baked beans. And drained the liquid. And put brown sugar on that also. Along with some tomato sauce on top. And finally I had added some mixed vegetables just to balance it all out.
Like I said, it was simple. And it was just me and my best friend. Having a nice holiday meal together. He has recently gone through a divorce. And he wasn't sure what he would be doing for the holiday. In fact, he's not sure what you'll be doing for any of the holidays to come. And I told him that tradition starts somewhere. And if he wanted to spend the holiday with me that was fine. Or he could spend it with his family that's okay too.
That's the fun thing about the traditions. They have to start somewhere but there are no rules. You do what makes you happy. And that is the bottom line.
Sometimes it can be intimidating to try someone's food that has never cooked for you before. But you should look at it as something exciting or adventurous. Perhaps. And just enjoy it. Nobody's going to like everything. That's why you try new things. To see what will work for you in the future.
Don't be afraid to try something new and to try something that someone made from the heart. That just makes it a little bit better. I did tell him he was perfectly welcome to cook Thanksgiving dinner. And maybe we could cook Christmas dinner together. But since you never know what tomorrow will bring, there's no telling what will happen in the future as far as food or anything else goes.
You know I'm going to try new things enjoy old things and keep on eating.
And I encourage you to do the same. Until next time.
Eat well.
